  6. I have a 86 johnson 70 vro and I pre mix it also .The oiler are bad to go out and blow the motors. The oil tanks on the newer motors work great with alarms on new boats these days

    1996 Johnson Venom 200 Oiler

+1000000 Steve!! Nailed it. Older engines (pre DFI all brands) can have VRO style oil tanks disconnected & run premixed fuel. Actually, this is a more reliable set up. However, there is a HUGE difference between a VRO oil tank & a remote oil tank on a DI model motor.

    1996 Johnson Venom 200 Oiler

Gotta be carful what motor you choose to do that to. Idk about the Venom, but like newer direct injected engines it would do more harm than good. Reason being is the fuel is not cycled through the entire crankcase, like it is on older traditional 2 strokes. No fuel through the crankcase= no oil through the crankcase. Oil is instead injected separately into the crankcase. Some of the older EFI motors were setup in a similar way. Fuel is injected with air into the intake port, so most the oil will get combusted instead of first making its way through the crank. Just a thought.
  10. It's pretty common to find the oil tanks removed for reason mentioned above. Most will smoke a little more at idle, but a little too much oil in the mix shouldn't hurt anything and is better than not enough oil because of a pump problem. Mine is still hooked up of my 99 Nitro. I get an alarm if there is an issue, low pressure, low oil ect. Maybe I trust the alarm a little more than I should....
  11. TAKE SOME ADVISE BLEW MY UP NEVER KNEW PUMP WASN'T WORKING VERY EXPENSIVE

/\ I've always heard the same. If the oil pump goes out, then you have a blown motor, the premix prevents that.

    1996 Johnson Venom 200 Oiler

I have a 2002 90 hp Johnson that the oil tank has been taken off of. The reason people take them off is you don't have to worry if it's getting oil or not. You know if you mix it in the gas it's gonna get oil. If it still has the oil tank on it the only way to find out it's not getting any oil is a blown motor. My motor may blow up tomorrow, but it runs like a top mixing the oil in with the gas
  14. Why would someone disconnect the oil tank and start mixing the oil into the gas it's self ? In my mind this would cause damage to the motor since it was not designed to get get oil like this . Me and my buddy are looking at a 96 Stratos 201 PRO XL with a V6 200 HP Johnson Venom that this has been done to . Can anyone shed some light on this for me ?

    Rusty hooks

You can get mustad kvd triple grip hooks fairly cheap on ebay. These aren't the ultra points, but they are pretty dang sharp. They have short & regular shank. I recommend the 2 x short 1 x strong ewg for cranks. Look up bellator tackle store on ebay. They have 20 to 25 packs for $5 to $8 depending on size. I just looked them up & they have 25 #6 for $3.90.

    Crappie Fishing

Light wire hook, med size split shot. 6lb line, minnows. Try to find brush in the 20 to 40' range. Crappie are up biters, so if you mark them at 25', drop your bait to 20 or so, because they usually won't go down to get it, but they will come up. Watch your line close, crappie will often bite & sit still & the only thing you will see is slight slack in the line. Don't waste too much time in one spot, if you don't get bit in 15 or 20 mins, move on.
