never heard of an outer crank seal causing a miss. it should have been dumping a lot of fuel out the exhaust if it was leaking that bad. did he really check the reeds? you have to take the front plenum off. i've only seen a few things cause a miss on 1 cylinder. bad coil, broken reed, bad plug, bad injector, leaking head gasket, or melted piston. the plug looking clean tells me it's an electrical miss unless the reed is broken. even with the seal leaking, it should have been getting enough fuel to color the plug if it was firing. and i don't know why he would be looking at the pop off valve or the water pump when trying to find a miss????

I think that a problem with number 6 can be caused by a pop-off valve being stuck open (or closed I can't remember exactly). You can go over to bassboatcentral.com and post a question in the mercury 3.0L section and you will get a response probab;y from Don at European Marine......

:USA1: Well she is back in the shop after all that work still can't get over 4800 RPMs. So I'm having the injectors cleaned and reset the volume flow, mech think she is flooding out on number 6. Before this is all over I will have a new engine again. She only has 172 hours on her now. Well I have trying to justifiy in getting a new boat this might be it. I can see a Nitro Z-9 with a MER 250 optimax in my future. Not Not don't want the bank note. :21ltk5w:

i don't. if the plug is definitely firing and remains snow white clean, it's either a broken reed or you're getting water in that cylinder.

on the optimax, i'd wait on merc's new 4 stroke. not the verado.

:USA1: Well he has change out the crank seal and there is no head leak where would the water be coming from. The reeds are in good shape as well. I am begining to think it could be clogged exhaust cause it does bog down. I asked the mech if he looked at the exhaust tunner holes to see if there were clogged when he took the powerhead off to change the crankseal and he told me they were fine. Thanks for the info MOONlite!!! When is the new 4 Stroke gonna be available?/ :21ltk5w:

they're trying to keep it quiet. supposed to be later this year. latest rumor is it will be an inline 4.5L 6 cylinder without blowers. if it is inline, i would pass. it'll have the same fate as the verado. it's supposed to be real light but it'll still sound like a john deere. somebody new must have taken over the design department around 2000. they went from the best looking simplest designs to weird everything.

if the injector is pumping enough fuel to keep it from firing, it would have to be stuck open all the time and you should have seen a gas slick behind the boat. never hurts to have them checked at brucato's. still don't think that's the problem.

I still think they adjusted your throttle stop to much and it's not allowing the motor to go to Wide Open Throttle. jmo!

could be that. i assumed basic stuff was checked first. but, if he didn't test the boat, i wouldn't assume anything.

Hurry up Friday.... so I can Pre-Fish...then HURRRRRY up Saturday so I can get this first one under my belt!

:USA1: Ok I finally got my boat back and she is once again screaming down the water way I got it up to 72MPH on GPS at 5800 RPMS, she was only loaded with me and my dog, 50 gallons of gas. She started to do the walk so I had to shut her down. I ran three good runs and then got her back down to a safe speed, the hole shot is nice once again. :banana057: I had tracker marine send my injectors to Brucuto and they did a fantastic job on cleaning and flow rate was check before and after cleaning. This is the comments from Brucutos " Upon reciept this set of injectors were preflowed and found to be in bad condition. The screens were dirty, the precent of inblance was out of tolerance at Static Flow and Idle/Part Throttle and all six injectors were lean. After cleaning and flow testing the set has stablized and all six injectors have come into spec. The percent of imbalance is now Excellent at Staic Flow, 5 MSEC-WOT and 2.5 MSEC-Idle/Part Throttle. New Screens and O-ring have been installed". If you all ever need your injectors clean I highly recommend Brucutos of North Carolina. :21ltk5w:
