Bullet Weights

Recommended Posts

What do you think about tungsten weights vs lead weights? Is the cost worth the results? I’ve always used lead bullet weights with a Texas rigged creature bait or worm but finally bought a few tungsten weights to try last year. Seemed like I had the same results. Have you all had different results using one vs the other? What do you all prefer?

So, I'm a believer.  I can feel the difference.  The data depicting the sound difference under water is irrefutable.  The density of tungsten allows me to use smaller profile weights.  That's a huge enabler when swimming my t-rig or c-rig (I throw both a lot) thru heavy cover.  I recommend staying away from the weights w/ the little plastic sleeves.  I find they do more damage to line than weight without the sleeves.  The pain of making this switch was the price - the Tn weights are expensive.  The good news is more people are selling them so prices are coming down a bit.  For me, the extra cost is worth what I get on the performance end.

+1 to what Airborne says- he hit the nail on the head. Made the switch to tungsten and never looked back. Make sure to check EBay, sometimes you can get decent prices on bulk Tungsten- this helps offset the cost some. I’ve got a few dings in my boat where Tungsten hit and almost knocked myself out with 3/8 Oz coming back at Mach II- it left a mark.

Thanks for the info fellas. The cost difference  is definitely the hardest part. I never considered the under water noise a factor. You all are right about the cost dropping some. I have noticed that on EBay.
Wes- I did notice they must be more arrow dynamic. When you set the hook in shallow water on a rock, they do fly at you a lot faster than a lead weight in the same weight. Very scary for your boat and body parts.

One of our members on here punched a hole in his mouth, jerking one out of a tree, so they’re definitely hard and dense. I’ve never used em, but I can still completely agree with people that do, and say they’re the only way to go, because of the hardness and density, and like airborne said- smaller size for the same weight.
