since i have been throwing a c-rig, i would use red plastic beads... this year i decided to use clear glass beads but havent caught anything.. my first c-rig fish of the yr came saturday but i used my old rig which consisted of the red plastic beads... when is the appropriate time to use the clear glass vs the red plastic??

I don't fish C-Rigs as much as I use to but I never used anything except Black Glass beads and had great success with them. I never used any color that might attract a fish to the beads and not the bait. I began using different colors but many time I would feel a strike and set the hook and nothing would be there. I had an old man tell me that the fish was striking the beads and not the bait. He told me to go black and I did and never had that problem again. I always used Glass because it makes a louder click when the sinker strikes it. Alot of my friends still use plastic mostly due to cost I think. Like I said I seldom fish C-Rigs any more but that is my rig combination when I do. JMHO

So Softy are you saying that Once you go Black you never go Back? :poke::potstir: :potstir: Im joking man!! Thats a good point! Ive used White, Clear and Red, and have felt the bites you described and kind of figured something was picking the bead and weight up. Ill have to try the black ones.

this is interesting.. i never really started paying attention to the little details until about last yr... i have fished with a guy who would put one red and one clear on his rig.. honestly it didnt catch anything bigger.. sometimes my two-four red ones would out due his..:scratch: .... the fish bitin' the beads is a new one to me.. never had that done, knock on wood...

I normally use red/clear/red glass combo for no other reason then that is what my dad always used. You get a large supply of beads for cheap at a hobby store or dollar tree. my daughter got a little kit to make bracelets and things and that thing has enough beads to last me for 10-15 years.

I might catch alot of slack here and I don't fish a c-rig as much as I should but I don't use beads, just a barrel swivel and sinker and it usually produces, of course I'm not big on throwing those rigs when you need to attract fish mostly when the water is clear and the fish are scattered on flats chasing shad.

The beads help protect the knot at the barrel swivel. The weight will fray the knot without the bead....

I did not even think about looking at Hobby Lobby for the beads.... Gotta be alot cheaper than any fishing supply place.

Ive used clear and red, but glass only. Never had any black ones.......

I use only glass, and always put on a Carolina Ticker because I feel like you get more sound and more refracted light with glass. JMO

+ 1...................always have a noise maker...i like to use Brass :headbang:

Well Wes, I am not sure about once you go black you never go back cause ain't never went black in that sense.........:lol: but I do know that I have always had better performance out of glass black beads than any other color. Like I said in my post. I never use to hit the lake without two C-rigs tied on laying on the deck. Now I have one tied and it's in the Rod locker and has not been out in probably two years. I do still use Black Glass beads on my T-Rigs. I will put one 7mm Bead between teh sinker and the hook to protect the knot. It seems to work just fine. Also Black matches up well with just about any color bait your fishing with. JMHO

Well I for one have had way too many frayed lines to even think about using glass anymore. Not knocking those that use it but I've seen it too many times especially when fishing in a rocky bottom. The glass beads have cut my line and caused me to miss several fish and I spend a lot of time in the bottom of my boat retying when using glass beads to ever go back to them again. But for those that use them and have good luck I applaud them cause they have led to way to many lost fish in tournament times for me to consider them anymore.

I bought 100 red plastic ones from the craft section at walmart for like 2 dollars. ALOT cheaper than buying them from the fishing dept.....

+1 you can also buy the glass beads at hobby lobby. I use the plastic ones because Im a cheapo and dont want to fork out the money for the glass ones.

Wes... Speaking of women - You remember that one time we were down at Davis Creek and that 'beautiful' woman hit on you. Her friends told you "She loves a fisherman.." That was the best day of my life to be in the back of the boat. I know I wasn't supposed to tell anyone, but, I doubt your wife will read this :potstir::poke: :poke:
