chevy5099
What is a good lure to dropshot with ? Small worms ? Thanks
BulletDeuce
I like to use Roboworms,Zoom finessee worms, & even used some Berkley worms-most of them are 4" & smaller. I've seen some people DS with a small tube, or a Senko style bait. There are quite a few options out there, I don't do it enough-but it does work when fishing highly pressured areas. JoeP
I think Boyd Duckett explained drop shotting best when I asked him what to use. "It doesn"t matter what bait you use, it's all a matter of presentation. If you think you're moving your bait too slow, slow down some more". He was using a shad type bait similar to a Damiki when I was riding with him but he was also fishing it in 60 feet of Douglas Lake water. I've caught a few at Soho using a Zoom finesse worm in a clear/black flake pattern. And working it sllllloow of course.
smokepurple
Finnesse worms will work most of the time. Chompers makes a great DS worm. The Gulp! Minnow is awesome when the bite is tough. The drop shot is one of my favorite techniques.
Mountainman
+1 on the roboworm. I also like to use a gulp minnow on a drop shot. especially in winter!
95Nitro
+1 on the roboworm. I also like to use a gulp minnow on a drop shot. especially in winter! You beat me to it! Gulp Minnow can be the cat's meow...... 90% of folks that use the DS method normally use the finess worms. Toss a Gulp Minnow on there, and you give them something they arent use to seeing as much as a worm. ALSO If the school of Bass you are on, sometimes tend to turn into Crappie Schools..... A Gulp Minnow will let you know whats under the boat! I havent learned and been able to rule out a school of fish based on how they are stacked up as to what species it is. brwnbass
Zoom makes a small worm call the meathead that works well. BPS has hand poured d/s worms that look awesome too. The gulp minnow is a winner for sure, also works good on hair jigs.....
bronzebackhuntr
I have been exploring the drop shot for a couple years now. Caught fish in the river, and off the bank on it. But still have yet to catch a fish in the boat on one. Tried doubling up the damiki on Holston last winter when that bite was on and every fish I caught was on the jighead bait. I know it can and will produce big sacks of smallies around here, but I've yet to be able to catch one.
Ocktane
Sniper lures (sniper snubs), Gulp alive minnows, Berkley trick worms, and roboworms for sure. I haven't live here in TN very long but I know for sure that smallies up in western washington wore sniper snubs and gulp minnows OUT! and the worms worked real good for largies. I love dropshotting! sturgill90
I have never drop shotted, although i did go and buy all the stuff you need to do it with, my question is: Do you cast it out like a regular lure or Texas rig or do you just drop it down right under the boat?? I don't quite understand how it would work if you cast it out?? Any thoughts??
smokepurple
Try flipping by holding the weight in your fingers if your casting and dragging...I only fish it vertical, straight under the boat if I mark fish. I like flipping the Drop shot.

Peck
I know this is an old post but it seems fitting for the time of year. My question is what size hook to use? Seems like a technique I should try.

Peck
I looked at some but I thought they looked small. Is it a smaller hook compared to other worm hooks?
Triton196
I looked at some but I thought they looked small. Is it a smaller hook compared to other worm hooks? The size 1 hook is most commonly used when throwing the damiki and gulp minnow.
SilverFox
Like Jeff I use the 1 and 2 according to what I'm fishing. It's a small hook but I've caught them on smaller.
Mountainman
VMC makes a really neat drop shot hook with swivels attached to the top & bottom of the hook eye so its real easy to make the rig up. I prefer the 1/0 also. http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/VMC_Spinshot_Dropshot_Hooks/descpage-VMCSS.html
