Gas .....

guys the Ranger has sit for the better part of 1.5 years and not been on the lake......my question is about the 1/2 tank (24-30 gal) of gas thats in the tank...it was treated with seafoam when it was last filled with gas.......momma is trying to get the Ranger cleaned and ready to fish the Tx on Chrokee on the 20th,,,,

what would you recommend do......drain the tank and gas filter as well as all fuel lines and get fresh gas....or do you think th gas is safe to use in the motor after sitting for so long......even with the Seafoam being mixed with the gas...

I would not use it in my boat snooter..........I realize it's alot of gas to just throw out. I would put it in gas cans if it smells and looks ok and use it in lawn mowers and chain saws and the such. I don't know if you know the trick about using primer bulb to empty the tank but when I have to empty mine I unhook the line going to the motor and get a few 5 gallon cans and use the primer ball to begin the gas flowing from the tank. If you need to you may need to add a little fuel hose to the bulb end to reach the cans on the ground.............. :thumbsup2: :thumbsup2:

Was it 100% gas or the blend?

I've used gas that old with no problems when it was 100%. they claim the ethanol draws water so if it's got the ethanol in it I would be a little hesitant about using it. the cylinders could already have rust on them sitting that long.

Marvel Mistery Oil would be a great thing to add to your gas to help lube the cylinder with it sitting that long. I use it in everything from my truck to my weed eaters and pressure washer. Check it out on line if you don't know what it is. It's amazing stuff. I use it as a gas treatment and an oil treatment where I replace 20% of the oil with the MMO.

Kenny has a good point about possible rust in cylinders. Once you make a decision on the gas you may want to start the motor on water muffs and let her run about 30 minutes and get the cylinders all lubed up again. I do that every Spring after my Bug Boat sets up all winter and I use 100% gas when I can get it and still use marine blue Sta-Bil regardless. I just don't trust these markets that say they have 100% gas all that much.......JMHO

Sea Foam also makes an oil to fog the cylinders for storage. If mine is going to sit for a while I take the spark plugs out and spray some in each cylinder then before it goes back in service fog each one again. It just gives it a little bit a lubrication before the oil gets in there to slick things up. As for the gas if it is 100% and has sea foam in it I would leave it in there. I would however buy a can of 104 octane boost and pour in it. It makes old gas burn alot better.
