SilverFox
Picked up the boat today... Has a new one of these on it. If things don't get easier to understand I'm going to be looking for a Lowrance unit. This thing is confusing! Any tips?

MtCarmelBugMan
I had Lowrance LCX units until Humminbird SI came out and swapped to it, then I started having problems with my 1197. Now granted Humminbird's sevice center is excellent and fast. I could send the unit in on Monday and have it back Friday but I shouldn't have to send a unit back for repairs every 3 months. I had to put my old trusty LCX19c back on the boat for 3 different tournaments just so I would have one. As I said they always got the unit back to me quickly but it seemed to never be working when I needed it most. I swapped to the Lowrance HDS units when structurescan came out and have had good luck with them thus far. There is a few differences in the way the two operate but once you get the hang of it they are both pretty user friendly. You just have to go a different route to do the same task. I liked the Humminbird unit but I think it is like the old saying on cars. You never wanted one built on Monday morning or Friday afternoon. I think my 1197 was the last one built on Friday just before beer thirty. I am sure you will get the hang of the Humminbird once you get some time to play around with it. I think you will like it as long as it isn't a Friday unit like I had.
Archie
I have had 4 birds total on my last two boats and love them. The following videos are very informative: http://www.watsonsmarine.com/videos/1/humminbird-bass-class If you still have trouble figuring it out PM me and I'll meet and walk through the menu's with you. Good Fishin, Archie
