softbaitmaker
When I first met Dan I think it was because he was looking on my web site and placed an order for some baits. We became good friends and would email and talk on the phone. He sent me some pictures of a few of his spinner baits and they struck be as something very unique and something different. I knew I was going to be ordering some. Well, I got my baits from him and it was only a short time before some of my buddy's were looking at them. Soon I was getting orders from about 10 guys here wanting some. I cannot remember exactly how many baits I ended up ordering but I do know it was kind of overwhelming to Dan. I don't think he was ready for the order I sent him.........I think his first reply was "You want how many baits"? There was along pause on the phone and then he said, "It's going to take me sometime to get that many made up," and I said "take your time, no hurry." Dan was not use to a guy ordering that many baits but I wanted to get his baits moving but I didn't realize he was not geared up to make baits in bulk....LOL. I bet he will have something to add to this but it was funny.....
smalljaw
Oh ya it was funny...now...LOL! As softy already knows, custom is custom so there really is no inventory and when he told me 5 dozen I just about S**t my drawers. The only saving grace for me was that most were the same size and their was multiple baits of each color, I think if there was 5 dozen with 5 dozen different color I'd still be making them...lol. One thing I can say is I have not only made custom baits but I fished a lot of them and every single custom bait has outfished the big names and it isn't a lie, I have some oxblood Danny B stick worms from Softy I got a few years back, these are my day savers, I have a zip lock bag I put 10 worms in every time I go out and if I'm getting beat by my fishing buddy or by the fish I pull out those worms and rig them on my own made shaky head and it is game on!! The other nice thing about custom tackle making and using is the people, I've met and became friends with some of the best people on this planet, people who I've never met in person but I feel as though I've known them my whole life. My dream is to get good enough medically to take a trip and talk and fish with all the people who I have befriended over the years and I can't keep from laughing as I think about it because it all started over 5 dozen spinnerbaits and a bag of worms!!! softbaitmaker
I think I might still have a couple of your blade baits left but I think my son-in-law has kidnapped most of what I had left that I ordered after all my buddies got theirs when they first came in. My son-in-law was fishing some BPS blade baits and some Booyah baits and I was catching fish on yours so slowly over the last couple years of him becoming a bass angler your baits have began getting lost out of my boat and finding their way on to the business end of his rods. I have gotten to old to sling a blade as much as I use to so I don't mind him getting them......LOL. I'm stuck dragging soft baits, Shakey heads and Jigs these days. If a top water bite is on I will walk a Super Spook jr some and spend a short time chunking and winding a Buzz Bait but not to often. Shoulders won't allow a lot of it any more. Worn out rotators cuffs........... :(
