I replace them when they begin making noise. I only use one type of reel and that is teh Sf Gold case Shimano Chronarch's and about 4 years ago I found a reel shop going out of business and I bought 24 bearings and 12 pawls for $40.00 for my reels so I have enough now to last me long enough that the reels will well out live me.

I took a 1990 model Shimano Citica and replaced the bearings with ABEC 7s. I clean them once a year and keep hot sauce on them. I am still using this reel today after 22 years.

Alot of folks don't know you can take those old Citica's and remove that side cover with the spool bushing in it and replace it with a bearing and you pretty much have a Curado with a slower gear ratio. Makes great Spinner Bait reel................ :thumbsup2:

Boca Bearing orange seals are what I replace my stock bearing with but only when they begin to make noise. Ceramics are the best performing and they can be run dry but the only problem is that they are noisy, so to quiet them down I put a small drop of light oil on them and I mean a small drop, this will make them quieter and still give you added performance.

That is all that reel is used for.

Hey Dan, if you are having a problem with those ceramic you might need to find a bottle of Rocket Fuel. It's a little costly but man does it work great on the ceramic bearings. I have a bottle of it I bought about 5 years ago and man is it great stuff, but like I said a little pricy. I think I gave about $8.95 for 3 oz bottle but still have it cause 1 drop gets the job done........JMHO
