Casting Braid

Last year I threw braid on my baitcaster with good results. When I got my new fishing pole I was excited to put braid on it due to the durability and lack of backlashes. When I took it out for the first time this year I was disappointed in the shorter distance. Anyone know how to increase my distance? It is a 7' bionic blade with Spider brand braided line. I the the weight of the spinner bait was 3/8 of an ounce but it may be lighter.

Try downsizing your braid. I use braid on the majority of my rods but nothing bigger than 40. A lot of people use 65 but that's drastic overkill. What pd are you using? Also , the power pro slick casts better than most brands I've tried.

Have you tried adjusting your line tension? Also, does the reel have a magnetic casting system? You might be able to get more distance by tweeking these to start off IMHO. I would hate to waste braid, its usually good for a couple of years & it ain't cheap.

could be several things. your reel may need some more adjusting, or need to be cleaned and serviced. also, wind, line size, rod action, and bait weight all play a big role in casting distance. you may want to try going up to a 1/2 oz. SB. i had trouble with the spider wire braid too, and switched to suffix832......much better.

I am new to baitcasters all around, using one for less than a year continually. I have been using 30lb power pro braid as well as 30 lb Berkley fireline tracerbraid. They both have done excellent, my casting distance has increased with more practice and tweeks to the brakes. Good luck and hope you find a braid that fixes your problem.
