Tungsten Weights

I was wanting some opinions on tungsten worm weights. Do you all feel like they're worth the price? I have always used lead but I've heard a lot of people say how much better tungsten is. To me worm fishing has always been cheap fishing. If you hang it up and break it off no big deal because you might have 50 cents in the whole rig but tungsten weights definitely change that. Are they worth the extra money?

I like them in certain applications such as flipping or punching. But, IMHO it's hard to beat lead for throwing on a T-Rig or C-Rig. You can expect to break off a fair amount of these, but your not going to break off a lot using heavier tackle while flipping.

After going to tungsten, for me it's been tough to use lead. Couple that with tungsten on florocarbon or braid and the weight hitting the bottom can fool you into thinking you're getting bit if you aren't paying attn. It's amazing what all you can feel. I haven't tried it on a c-rig yet, only because I hate paying 5-7 $ for two weights. I love tungsten.

I use Tungsten on all my T-rigs and have for years. I was able to make a bulk purchase on them about 8 years ago and still have enough to last me probably the rest of my life...................

We see who's got the money around here. LOL. Hopefully I can add more to your fund soon

Believe me if I had not got such a great buy on the weights I would not be able to use them like I do. I  had a great outlet in Florida for about 4 years and I would order weights for myself and a few friends here locally. We would order a $1,000.00 worth of weights each year 3/16th bullet weights were $13.80 per 50 count and I think 5/16th oz was like $15.70 per 50 count and you can guess the great prices as the weights went up in size. If we would have known our outlet would have just disappeared all at once we would have ordered more that last year. I think he may have been a college student that probably graduated and was using the weights to help his income. He operated out of an apartment in Ft. Lauderdale. Like I said, if I was not able to buy those in bulk for those 3 years I would not be able to afford them these days. He also paid the shipping and used those flat rate post office boxes and you know the post office really hated this guy cause he would pack all our weights in one box and really got his moneys worth........................:D

There are some very good places to buy Tungsten weights on the internet and Bass Pro in NOT one of them....

Pro Tungsten, Alleys, Dominator are just a couple.

I find it really hard to use lead weights for t-rig anymore because the feel is so much better.

Love the boat and color scheme. Gary Clouse is a good friend of mine and buys baits from me. He does build an awesome boat for sure.....................

Maybe Im missing something, but Ive tried them and really didn't think the price difference was justified. A good, sensitive rod & braid with a lead weight has pretty good feel to it. Yes, there was a noticeable difference between the 2 weights, but 1) I have 1/4 ton of lead weights and 2) I personally didn't feel there was enough of a difference to justify the price jump from lead to tungsten. But, as with many products, if it makes you more confident, go for it.

I have been using them since I posted this a couple of years ago.  The main thing I like about them is how much smaller they are than lead of the same weight.  In the summer I like to fish a 10" worm deep and I can use a 1/2 oz. Tungsten weight that's the same size as a 3/8 oz. lead weight.  Does it really make a difference?  I don't know but I feel like the smaller weight makes the rig seem more natural.

I find that i get hung much less with the tungsten. It's alot easier to pop it loose. I don't use lead much at all anymore, unless im bank fishing. Otherwise it's all tungsten, much better feel, smaller size, doesn't hang as easy, & more sound.
