Help guys

Guys I just ordered 7 new reels for my rods. I have been using shimano 2000 series and I am replacing them with 4000 series. These are all spinning reels.

The reason I am doing this is because I want to start using heavier line and also the new reels have better bearing systems to help the drag work better and smoother.

I have been using 10Lb P-Line Moss green

I have lost a couple pretty good fish due to the line snapping in conjunction with the cheap reels I have been using not letting drag out properly.

I want to spool my new reels with 14 lb line , I want to use just regular line. not the new fancy stuff.

My question to all of you is this what brand and kind of line in 14 lb test casts the smoothest and is easy to use on spinning reels?

I have been using 10 Stren clear and 10 lb P-Line

I need to quit having these fish break my line. any help guys? Thanks. Trey

I know it's probably too late, but you need to use casting gear when you go above 10lb if at all possible. You'll be limited to the limpest line you can find or it will knot up....... In other words, don't put anything on it that says "abrasion resistant". 14lb P-Line is definitely out of the question.

i like BPS Excell :wavesmile: Tracker..is that right  ...i have no complaints.....great for crank'en too :headbang: and as mentioned nothing above 10 lb.

+1. I only use BPS Excel on all my spinning reels. :headbang: To this date I have never broke off a fish using this line. After reading your question I cannot help but think that your drag was set too tight on your older reels or like you said, they were stuck or had sticking points in the drag. I think this may be the main issue but like everyone mentioned above, I personally do not recommend anything over 10lb on spinning outfits unless it's something bigger than most folks use around here in freshwater situations. ;)

i use primarily 3 different rigs when i fish. 7' med /hvy bait caster-quantum reel-50lb braid, 6'6" bass pro tourney spin rod tica 2500 reel-20 lb pro line braid, 6'6" shimano rod reel combo spinning 8lb stren clear original line. the 20lb braid on outfit #2 is same diameter as maybe 6-8 mono and has saved me from missing lots of fish. i like the feel of mono, but it feels like a bungee cord after using braid. just my opinion, hope it helps

+10 on the excel line. Its really good stuff.Another thing you could do is to step up to a 7' spinning rod with a fast/extra fast tip to help protect the lighter line & as an added bonus you'll get more distace on your casts too.You could give p-line 100% floro a try, it worked well for me in 10lb & seems much stronger than 10lb.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm. I have had no trouble w/ P-Line. I use 8 lb on my spinning rigs and have fished thru some gnarly stuff w/o issue.

The only other line I like for spinning rigs is Trilene XL.

Side note - have you checked your guides and tip to see if you have a crack in the liner? that may be the source of your breakage.

Another side note - have you tried using braid w/ a fluoro leader?

Never had a problem with P-Line CXX breaking. Which P-Line are you using? I use baitcaster most of the time, but I do have two spinning reels with P-Line. As long as I only fill the spool a little more than half way I never have a problem and I still get good casting distance.

Same here. I have two reels with p-line on them.
