fritobasser
OK, I know this problem is going to sound strange, but this is what is going on. I hope someone might know what the problem is: I have a 99 model fishing barge with a 50hp tracker motor made by Mercury The problem is if I try to start when the weather is hot afternoon it will not start does not seem to be getting any fuel. I tried pumping bulb it is firm. still will not start. I can try starting the it when the weather is cool morning or at night it starts the first turn of the key. Any ideas what the problem might be. BANDIT
Totally a shot in the dark here (I'm not much of a mechanic) but you might need to vent the gas tank
uncledaddy
i had the same problem an it came down to having a week fuel line an when it was hot it collapsed alot easier than when it was cool out side if that makes sense to you hope that helps
eastenfish
plus 1 for fuel line. First thing I would do is get new fuel line and bulb. Shouldn't be too expensive and I think it will solve your problem. Good luck and let us know how it goes. Just my

Let us know if that dont fix it; im sure someobdy can help you out or hook you up with a good mechanic.
vol-fisher
This is another problem with ethanol, it eats the gas lines from the inside out. This is a common problem in the last couple years. I think the new hoses are made to withstand it and will not break down.
softbaitmaker
I was experiencing just the opposite problem last year. Mine would not start when cool and would have to crank for ever to get it started when cold. Once it started it would fire up with touch of key the rest of the day. Problem started at Douglas last year. Had 5 different mechanics look at it and could not figure out the problem. I began putting Blue Sta-Bil in it with every tank of gas and eventually it fixed itself. Ethanol was evidently overwhelming the fuel but Blue-Stabil fixed it and now it fires right up every time quick. Hope you figure out your problem buddy. fritobasser
Thanks to all on the help with the motor problem. Sorry it has taken me so long to reply, but just got the pontoon back in the water. Replacing the fuel line done the trick. Although I got the pontoon on the water i still did not get to wet a line. I hope to next weekend and the week as I am on vacation!! Again thanks for the help guys
vol-fisher
Here is some info on fuel lines from BBC's RangerRodney. Here is an example of what the ethanol gas does to your fuel line. If you have any of the silver lines you need to replace it with the silver with a blue stripe on it, may save you some trouble
brwnbass
Ethanol is basicly just alcohol, it is highly corrosive & evaporates quickly. It hardens rubber lines & makes them crack & shrink. It makes hard plastic very brittle. Do not ever put 100% ethanol in any vehicle not designed for it. It takes about 1-1/2 times more ethanol to run an engine than it does regular gas & will lead to burnt pistons & valves due to an extremely lean mixture.
