Mountainman
Recently, I had to do some reorganizing in my boat storage compartments and had all my crap laid out. I am a self-proclaimed plastics junkie and I cant go into a store or onto a website without seeing a "new" color that I think "Man, that would catch fish on_______ lake in the ______ of the year." (fill in the blanks with any lake in the Southeast at any given time of year ) Anyways, I had several (Im not even going to give a definite number) tackle bags full of all manner of plastics taking up a ton of room. So I though to myself, I need to clean those out and maybe condense into a few less bags. When i got into the process, I began seeing some colors Ive never used, not used in 10(or more) years, and stuff that I wouldnt use in the next 10 (or more) years. So, I had a thought, "Ill go thru here and pick out my highest confidence, most productive colors and keep them in the boat, then a bag of stuff that I think would work in an odd situation. The point to all this is this: If you had to pick 3 to 5 of your best colors for worms, lizards, creature baits, plastic topwater/subsurface, and finesse plastics, what would they be?? Mine are as follows:(in no particular order) Worms: Watermelon Red, Junebug, Motor Oil, Chartruese Punkin, and Burple with cherry seed as an extra. Lizards: Watermelon Blue, Cotton Candy, Green Pumpkin, Punkin Pearl, and Smoke with Black/blue as an extra. Creature: Mustard brushhog, Green Punkin centipede, Junebug Brushhog, Cinnamon/purple brushhog, and black/red centipede. Topwater: White pearl fluke, Junebug senko, Green Punkin senko, Chartruese trick worm, and Bubblegum trick worm with Cotton Candy Senko as an extra. Finesse: Black finesse worm, Purple Passion tube, Green Punkin finesse worm, Smokey Rainbow grub, and Chartruese Punkin finesse worm with Avacado tube as an extra. trackertxw175
i have recently started to throw litteraly everything in the tacklebox because it seems i have gotten into a small handful of baits that consistently produce, so when its slow i tie on the "what was i thinking when i bought this" lures. i still need to cull out the ones that won't produce on a good day. the real payback was when i was fishing with one of my sons on a slow day and started catching them and when he asked what i was catching them on i told him the one you gave me. he then had to ask for one because he didn't have any "i gave those to you because i didn't think they would work or saw these in the closeout bin and got you some". Tracker1861
I can pretty much sum all of my go to baits into one catagory.......natural colors. Mix the natural colors with a few reds, blacks, and chartreuse and it sums it up. I learned quite a few years ago that there are no magical bait, get a few colors that you have confidence in and fish them with that same confidence. It's always better to have your bait in the water than sitting down in your boat trying to decide which one to tie on next.

Mountainman
This is all good and fine, but c'mon guys........I know Im not the only one who has a box with a handful of colors that will produce.
softbaitmaker
Well I am the type of guy that think it is very easy to over complicate bass fishing and I am not to color conscious. I normally can use about 5 different colors of soft baits for 95% of my fishing with average to good success. Green Pumpkins with enhancements, Black Grape, Red Shads with enhancements, Road kills with enhancements and White also with enhancements. I will at very certain times which is the other 5% I will fish a Blue Bait. That is about the extent of my go to bait colors. All of those colors are also dependent on the bait style whether it be a worm or a creature bait.

BassinHomer
I pretty much stick with Green Pumpkin and black/blue or black red flake, either natural colors or colors that will stand out in Loudon waters, however with that being said I usually don't have enough cash to stock up on anything so I get what I can when I can and it's usually pretty close to the colors listed above, heck if youre fishing anything other than a sweet beaver in green pumpkin I can't help ya! eastenfish
Watermelon is definately my favorite. Black with enhancements would be close second. Then whites and pumpkins. That's about it. Except night then it's black and red flake or junebug. Oops I wasn't supposed to let junebug out of the hat.

Jon
Generally greens and browns during the day; blacks, reds, and blues at night. I've seen most everything work and then not work, but every color will work at some point in time. The dip n dye is the same, sometime it's like magic and the next season it might as well be repellent. If you believe in it, it's typically the best color. If you don't, you'll fish it poorly and the results will match even if it's what everyone is catching them on.

brwnbass
I usually have an order that i go thru. But most of the time its watermelon red flake, watermelon seed, green punkin, strawberry, cherryseed, punkin seed firetail. I have a couple super secret colors that ive never seen anybody use that i cant divulge. Yamamoto is the only one ive seen make it. & that sucks, because they are about $7 a pack now.
