JIGSTICK
Just curious, on a moonlit night what do you guys prefer, moonlit side of the lake or dark side? Also what techniques do you prefer on those sides?

Tracker1861
Good topic Jeremiah. I personally prefer the dark sides and actually have noticed that I do not do near as well on the lighter sides. Don't ask me why but I have noticed it myself over the past several years. As far as baits, just typical bottom bouncers from worms, jigs to blades.
vol-fisher
Now if you are fishing top water, I prefer to be in the moonlight. Then you fish around the cover that provides a little "shadow" area from direct light, throw your bait right by the ambush area. Now walleye, totally opposite, I head for the shawdowed areas. But topwater is all I am throwing 80% of the time after dark.
eastenfish
I stay in the shade. Unless a specific spot I'm catching them on happens to be on moonlit side. However, if simple bank running I'm looking for shade. Also I go for baits that push more water and make noise in the shade. If I'm fishing the moon lit side I go with very subtle presentations. Smaller baits and baits that push very little water are baits that I choose. Just my Also word of advice. Turn your white light off on your blacklight. I've tried over the years and seem to catch more fish with light off.

JIGSTICK
good topic man i never really thought about that before but now i know lol i learn something new everytime i sign on to the forum I know what you mean. I didn't think about it much before Saturday night when I was fishing that tournament and could see my shadow on the water from the moon. Common sense told me that light was the same to bass whether it was the moon or the sun.
Mountainman
I usually try to hit both. Typically, I do better on the darker side with everything but topwater and blades. BUT.....I have caught some dandy fish on moonlit points thru the years. Personally, I dont believe there is a right or wrong answer here; its more about what you have confidence in fishing. brwnbass
Well, i like the dark side. With a street light, or dock light being my favorite. Love to throw a blade or buzzbait into the light. Then a rattle trap & after all that back off & sling a worm or jig. I will fish the light side of the bank, but in as many shadows as i can & esp the backsides of points.

fritobasser
I like the dark side as well. I have caught fish on the light side, but i seem to catch a lot more fish and get more bites on the dark side. I have had been fishing on the dark side several times when I was catching fish and getting hits until the moon cleared the tree line. As soon as it cleared my bite stopped on the light side of the bank. I could them move to a location that was still in the dark and the bite picked back up. I am sure it is like mountainman stated it's all a confidence thing. I just don't like fishing in the light of the moon prefer the dark side. There's my worth. brwnbass
Just remember the old saying, " Dark colors on dark nights, light colers on light nights. It makes a big difference sometimes. Was fishing douglas one night & using a junebug lizard, my partner was throwin punkinseed. We were fishing a shallow, light colored rock bank in direct moonlight. He outfished me 10-1 in the first hour, til i broke down & searched for my p-seed lizards. I caught 4 or 5 in the next 10 casts in exactly the same spot i had been fishing the j-bug. MtCarmelBugMan
I guess my answer is a little simpler. I like the side the fish are biting on. I usually fish both then go from there. I think it is a little less important when you fish a little deeper but I guess it does in the shallows.
2golforfish
If i am going to get out the buzzbait i prefer the moonlit side, if I am bottom bouncing it doesnt really play into my thinking alot usually

softbaitmaker
Well if I'm fishing a lake like Priest I will try and fish dark shadows and if I am getting bit I will fish there till the moon lights it up and then I will begin to follow the shadow around the bank or point because the fish will also follow the shadows in most cases.
