JoeP
Does anyone have either of these props that they might let me borrow or possibly buy? I'm trying to get this new boat set up and the performance is embarrassingly bad. A few people have told me to go to a 22 or 23 but I would like to try one before I shell out $500. bronzebackhuntr
What pitch does it have on it right now Joe? I've got a 23p tempest on mine, I'd let ya take it for a spin. It's a tempest, not a tempest plus. Not sure what the difference is Edited June 9, 2013 by bronzebackhuntr

It's a tempest, not a tempest plus. Not sure what the difference is It came with a 24p Tempest Plus but a lot of people have told me that's too much prop for an 18' 8" boat with a 150. I'd like to try a 23 before I go all the way to a 22 because I don't want to go too far and risk beating up the rev limiter.
Mountainman
Boats are different, I know., but my old 18' Hydra-Sports with a 150 was a rocket with a 4 blade 24p Renegade. I dont think its too much prop for the motor, maybe just your set up. There are so many variables......prop to pad height, weight distribution, air temps, water temps, set back, etc, etc. Try to keep as many things the same as possible. I compare it to shooting a bow. You change one little thing, and everything is gonna work differently.
GlitterRocket
when you say the performance is bad, do you mean holeshot, topend, mid range?...... if it's the holeshot, then andy's suggestion of trying a 4-blade should help.
JoeP
when you say the performance is bad, do you mean holeshot, topend, mid range?...... if it's the holeshot, then andy's suggestion of trying a 4-blade should help. Just the opposite, the holeshot is instant but the top end is horrible. It gets on plane in about 2 seconds but the top end speed is horrible, especially given the little amount if gear that we carry. I know it's not going to run 70 with a 150 but I'm not even close to 60, and most guys with the same set up are 61 to 63 under ideal conditions. JoeP
And I've tried all of the other variables; prop to pad at 3", 3.25" and 3.5" with the same results. I've also tried redistributing some weight but no luck.
stratos285proxl
I have a Johnson 150 on a 04 stratos 285 pro xl which is 18'5. Trimmed up at 5200 rpms it gets around 58. I'm used to having bullets that run 80+ so it's a big change. If I remember right I'm running a 23p. I can't trim up anymore at 5200-5300 which is fine with me. But I'm gonna have to work on the jack plate. Everyone says I should get around 61-63 out of it but I'm not sure. But I really like my 23p prop
country
how many rpms you turning that should give you an ideal which way to go, I have a 21 trophy 4 blade dont think that would help you, I think fishook has a tempest but not sure of the pitch
