FYI on customer service

Recommended Posts

Guys I want to give you a little info on Lowrance's customer service. I don't like feeding a company to the wolves but this is uncalled for. I fished the Toms marine and TBF tournaments on Saturday in the rain and my hot spots card stopped working on my Lowrance 525c. It wouldn't show contour lines or any of the info that the card holds but did still show my trail and gps waypoints. Yesterday I took the card out and it had some moisture on it. Sometimes the card would load and work properly, sometimes it wouldn't. I called Lowrance "Technical Support" this morning to ask about troubleshooting the problem to see if it was the card or unit that had the problem. After waiting for 12 minutes on hold a gentleman got on the phone, asked my name, asked what unit was in question, and asked what the problem was. I plainly told him the problem and the first thing that came out of his mouth was "I can give you a service order number, you send it in, they'll look it over and if its not repairable you can send $395 for a rebuilt 525c" now this unit is 2 1/2 years old, the HDS is what they carry now. I then asked him that I was wanting to see what I could do to troubleshoot the problem and it was like he was on another planet. I've made up my mind on what my next graph will be and it won't be a lowrance. I've been their customer for over 10 years and am jumping ship on them. I wanted to let you guys know what your getting into if you are looking to buy lowrance. 0 customer support and your graph/gps won't be worth anything in 2 years to them but their rebuilt is worth 400 bucks.

I know how you feel.

I have Lowrance and Hummingbird on mine and up until this last Tx I thought the Lowrance was better. Andy will back me up on some of the stuff we done with the Hummingbird that the Lowrance would not do.

I will stay with Hummingbird too from now on.

Yep, since they lost Linda Colt, their Customer Service is non-existent. I think on my next order of electronics, I'm going with HB as well. I have heard some really good things about thier service.

When Linda was there, I called her and told her about what my 332C was doing, she sent me a 337C and a return label. I had a new unit in two days, and my unit was 3 months out of warranty. They knew they had problems with the 332's and she fixed it for me. You won't get that now.

Yes Sir, Linda was "LOWRANCE". She helped me several times and was a real pleasure to do business with Lowrance. Not so much anymore though. I was fixing to lay down a bunch of $$$$ on a HDS8 or HDS10 at the time she left. I am glad I waited. Soon as I get some money freed up, I just might have to try out a HB 1197.

Only other option is to purchase from Justin and Cindy at Three Rivers Marine. If you buy a unit from them and it fails, you can ship it to them and they will send you another one while they take care of the warranty work for you. Now you just cant beat that! :notworthy:

I have not had any business with Lowrance but I can tell you from experience that Humminbirds customer service is the best. When I first got my 987 I did have some troubles with it having to send it in for service twice but I got the problem fixed with no hassle and no money spent by me. A friend of mine who also owns a 987 could not get his unit to even come on but after he called Humminbird they said they problem was possible mositure in the unit and they would fix it at no charge because it was possibly a bad seal. Anyways he got it fixed no charge after owning it for 3 years. IMO you can't beat that.

That's impressive Jeff. Do you have the 987c SI? If so, how do you like it? I've got a friend that is looking at selling his and I'm in the market for one

Yes it is the 987c SI. I do like it the only draw back is I have the original transducer and it will not work over 10 mph. But you can get the switch and the extra in the hull transducer. One feature I like is what they call the shaded depth on the map which allows you to change the lake level by feet to show you humps or long points that may be showing when the lake level is down.

Now that sounds interesting! That must be a big help on tva impoundments.
