Techniques

Well, since there's tumbleweed blowing around today I figured I'd see what everyone considers their strengths to be fishing. I take pride in being versatile and being able to do about anything I need to, but if I was to name my exact strength it would have to be straight finesse fishing. I love having an eggbeater in my hand and throwing little baits. Specifically 1/8 oz jigs and small plastics. If there's any one thing I do want to get better with it's still the dropshot. I've tried it and still have no confidence in it.

Jig fishing. I will say that being in TN has taught me that you have to be able to do about anything to catch fish. It's a lot more difficult at times than fishing SC and shallow water.

Fishing 2 techniques in SC... Texas Rig and topwater were responsible for 99% of my fish.

My strengths would have to be shallow cranking in the spring and fall and silver buddy's in the winter. My weaknesses are deep cranks swimbaits. I've tried both a lot and never had much luck with either. I can catch them at times on jigs, spinnerbaits and trig but I usually don't try them unless the shallow crank isn't working.

As ya'll know I love a jig , I will use one from Jan 1 to Dec 31 . I can fish a jig from 6" to as deep as I want and catch fish . Love cold stained water the problom I have is at night in the summer as ya'll can tell by our Tx 's . My jig is no match for the A-rig so I would like to learn more on what makes that thing tick ( not to shy to ask for help on this ) .

I would say my biggest strength would be fishing deep with a jig, shakey head, or crankbait. My biggest weakness is fishing less than 5 feet, but I have learned a lot over the last couple of years. Fishing the BFL trail as a co-angler taught me a lot about being versatile and I learned that is the biggest advantage to fishing trails in East TN. It is hard to consistently be competitive around these parts if you are not extremely versatile.

my  strengths are topwater, shallow cranking and nighttime spinnerbaits. my weaknesses are fishing with small baits in deep water, swimbaits and spoons. like some of the other guys have said, i think you got to be versatile around here. over the last 5 or 6 years I've gotten better at making myself learn how to fish with different baits/techniques and where to fish these baits. there are a bunch of baits I want to get better with.......a few that come to mind are propbaits ,swim jigs, and  the aforementioned  swimbait. the more feedback a bait has, the easier it is for me to get the hang of it. with topwater the feedback is visual, with traps ,cranks and nighttime SB's there's a lot of feedback thru the rod. even with a jig or worm your in contact with the bottom, and you get a lot of feedback that way. but with the single swimbait there is very little(if any) "feel" or feedback to pick up on. that's the bait/technique I will probably put effort into getting better at over the next year or so.

My overall strength would be versatility...I feel just as confident in my abilities flipping or cranking less than a foot deep as I do vertically dropshotting in 40 feet of water. In terms of what my strengths are, I would say shallow (less than 10 feet) cranking, fishing a jig at any depth, catching big open water spots, topwater, and a hair jig in winter (I tie my own and don't share haha).

As far as weaknesses, my biggest one would have to be the Alabama Rig. I have caught fish on it, but I have no desire to fish it. I like to enjoy fishing when I go, and I derive less than zero enjoyment from chunking that anchor around. Of course, I guess it can't be considered a weakness if I have no desire or intention to improve in that area. Another weakness would be Carolina rigging, for many of the same reasons as the Alabama Rig.

I love fishing jigs and t-rigged plastics...cranking is a luck shot for me...I've caught a few on them... (very few)...my weaknesses have to be deep fishing (anything off the bank and away from docks)...I would like to be able to learn to find fish on my lowrance or at least learn how to somewhat use it for deeper fish...right now I have a $600 thermometer and depth finder haha...any offers to teach me about electronics would be grately appreciated.
