brownfish03
Brian, how much are we talking for a spinning rod? I've got one in mind I'd like to have... As for Burns, I went to a fishing show a few years back and was talking to him about a rod. Told him I didnt have the money with me to buy today and he blew me off like cut grass on my driveway. Guess he didnt know that I was serious and would have put a check in the mail the next day....guess he'll never know.....

brownfish03
Why on earth would you buy a new rod Dale? You using them for decoration in your living room? LOL...yea, I still find time to pitch jigs to coffee cans. Look dude, kids take time (if your a dedicated father) and I enjoy it. One day, they will be older and I'll have more time to fish again. Right now, I'm doing right be them and attending every thing they are a part of. I don't want parenting regrets. The fish will still be around....I have most of them trained anyways....

flipperjig
im telling ya guys i have about 6 or 7 joe burns rods and travis's rods are a better feeling rod....i just bought number 3 today.....dale like country said there is so much you can do with a rod....im sure whatever you have in mind travis can build it..... he is building alot of 7-2 and 7ft damiki spinning rods right now...7-2 med light and 7 ft med...... that 7 ft med is what i bought today and it will be a all around rod with many uses...could be used for a damiki, drop-shot, small crank like a bandit, small jig and and shakey head..... dale just stop by his shop there at the old kennys tackle shop and tell him what you want....im sure he can build it....many different reels seats like graphite handles like the old tennessee handles and etc...im telling ya guys i would put these on the market with a GLOOMIS any day of the week.....and i think they are twice as good as Joe burns rods.....just my opionion.... i know the blanks are alot better that he uses...joe use to use rainshadow blanks and travis is using MHX blanks.....most of his rods are running around 100 bucks...but i think that all depends on what type stuff you get on them...they are higher priced handles, reel seats, guides and etc.....but for the money i dont think you will beat these rods anywere!!!!!!!!! and i also know if you want one he can make it pretty quick too...he is making 2 or 3 about everyday........i say get um while there hot boys cause i bet cha in a month or 2 there will be a waiting list for um!!!!!!! country
for myself a custom rod was never anything i wanted! the reasons were i felt you were buying something in a grab bag, could not see or feel, use it, but when running into these by knowing travis and being able to look at rod from raw stage to watch it being built changed everything, i basically replaced almost all of my rods at 1/3 of the cost of a g loomis, i personally like the g loomis classic full cork, lite and sensitive like no others and the mag bass series rods are right around 300 plus or minus
flipperjig
well boys like i said you better get um while there hot!!!!!! i have heard some great things about travis and his rods..... i also heard something else about them thats why i say you better get um now while the getting is good!!!! they may be very hard to get soon....hearing ole travis may be moving on up in the rod building world!!!! i think his future is looking very good in tha rod building buissness!!!!!! stop by and give im a look i bet you will want one or 2 or heck maybe a half dozen!!!!! GlitterRocket
trying to figure out what your looking for in a rod for a particular technique can be a time and money consuming proposition. a little time spent talking to custom rod builder can shorten the process. with off the self rods, there are usually a suggested technique labeled on the rod. this is a great starting point to find the feel your looking for, but personal preference is huge when it comes to rods. having a rod with the right feel for YOU will build a lot of confidence. i think this kind of confidence will help you catch more fish. there's a lot of situations where custom rods can excel over off the self rods. your level of feel(bite detection), how hard you set the hook, or how you fight and land fish, are all things that can be considered in how you want you a rod to preform. also the aesthetics of a rod are important to a lot of guys. it might just be mental, but if a rod looks good too....well that can't hurt, can it? the word "custom" sometimes makes folks think they're expensive, but often customs are actually cheaper than comparable off the self rods. having a rod built for you with your preferences and tendencies in mind will be much more useful than going thru 3 or 4 rods over as many years trying to figure out what you want, and will save money over the long term. sounds like travis( I've only met him once, but seemed like a good guy) is building some nice rods. you might save yourself some time, money and frustration by giving him or some other good rod builder a call. just my
bronzebackhuntr
Very well said Joey. I have personally never bought, owned, or even fished with a custom rod. But I may just have to try one out soon.

flipperjig
The blanks he is using are MHX blanks and you can look them up on the net under www.mhxfishing.com they come with a lifetime warranty and it doesnt cost you much at all to replace the blanks if they break....like i said check um out and see what you like....if you have an idea talk to travis about them and im sure he can make whatever you want....he can even build a rod with the handles like a cashion rod... look and feel awesome...in my opinion better built because they arent built in bulk.... he builds um one at a time!!!!! just like ranger boats......NOW THATS HOW LEGENDS ARE MADE!!!!!
