safety in tx

Recommended Posts

I know a few of us fish by our selves in these tx ,an I was just wondering If I ripped my tin can boat open on a rock and was stranded some where how long after tx would any one come looking for me or would they even try?? I would have cell phone ,but it probably wouldnt work wet. Does any of you have a marine radio? maybe we should think about getting one or some kinda commuication to make every ones made it back to the ramp ok. I would hate to think I left some one outt there in trouble, epsecialy in winter or early spring when water temps are low. Just wondering and my :2cents: what do you guys think??

I was thinking about this in the last TX...

I think whoever is over the particular tournament should make their cell number available to everyone fishing....if someone decides or has to leave early, or has boat trouble, they need to call the TX Director.

That way, if someone doesn't show up for the weigh in, and they haven't called, then we need to look for them...

I agree with Jamie on this one. I personally feel that the particular tourney director needs to make his cell number available to all participants. And also, if anyone fishing the tourney decides to leave early then I feel it is thier duty to get in touch with either the tourney director or at a minimum someone else fishing the tourney so they can let everyone know. I can honestly say that with all club tourneys that I have fished in the past we make it known to account for ALL boats that were out there fishing, if we don't have someone accounted for then we start looking for thier vehicle and start asking around till we get an answer. I have seen a few times that there have been boats put back in the water to go start looking for the unaccounted boat.

i assume this topic started up when all you nuts ran into that hellish storm on douglas while me and postalfish sat in the dry vehicle and patted ourselves on the back for our decision poke.gif

That was a good idea, wish we would have done that. You guys culling fish in the paking lot at the weigh in got me good, i kept waiting for a 7lber to come out of the well,lol.potstir.gifpoke.gif

I don't think culling should be allowed in parking lot at all. I think when the boat comes out of the water it should have the legal limit allowed in tournament. JMHO I know back when I ran my tournaments it was manditory that every boat culls on the 6th fish regardless. Only 5 fish allowed in livewells in my Tx's but like I said JMHO..........:unsure:

Now to address the issue of safety. I also had a rule that if you pulled out early you called me or B.T.'s cell phone to let us know you were leaving because we had a policy of never leaving a boat behind cause many of my anglers were retired older folks and we wanted to amke sure everyone made it back safely. In the event of storms showing up I always tell folks to call in rather in trouble or not to let folks know your safe. Only had one incident where an anglers motor quit and he was about 12 miles form launch and cell phone didn't have a signal. all 14 boats went in several different directions and B.T. and I located him fairly quick since we saw him head up stream at blast off and had a hunch we knew about where he would be. We towed him back to launch site and on the way I began calling all the boats to tell them Edward had been located and everything was under control.
