Jhatcher
Got another boat question. I'm mounting my transducers to my transome and I'd like to adhere some old plastic cutting board pieces to the boat so not to drill holes in it. Any suggestions for a good glue or adhesive to use for this project ? Thx jh
SteveHTN
2 part epoxy would be my suggestion, making sure that you thoroughly clean both the boat and the cutting board with acetone or lacquer thinner, followed by alcohol to remove as much oil as possible for a strong bond. Mountainman
Since its an aluminum boat, be sure to take a wire brush and/or sander and completely remove all old paint & oxidation before using any glue on aluminum. After that, 2 part epoxy or a marine grade adhesive geared toward aluminum, like 3M. I understand folks not wanting to drill holes in their boat.....I have a hard time doing it to mine, but when done properly, those 2 little holes will never leak. SteveHTN
^^^^^ what he said. Sorry, I didn't catch that it was aluminum. I went ahead and drilled into my transom to install my new one since I was in a hurry. Honestly after I got over the sick feeling, it's working perfect and doesn't leak a drop. But I understand if you wanna avoid that.
Jhatcher
Well this is my transome, should I bite the bullet and use this little add on piece for my transducers?i guess that is what it is used for.

Peck
I used a marine silicone adhesive on my aluminum Jon and also moved the transducer over to my fiberglass boat. Never had an issue with it coming off and when I sold the Jon, I cut the silicone around the transducer and had to pry the thing off. I'll dig thru my junk shelf and see if I can find the brand and exactly what the stuff is called. But like they said really need to clean the aluminum up and almost scuff it up to make sure you get a good grip.
SteveHTN
Looking at your boat, if it were me I'd get the transducer mount from bass pro that's made for Jon boats. It clamps right on the back.
Whopper
From the looks of your transom pic that raised bracket is what your should mount your transducer too. A couple of short #8 or 10 self tappers would do the trick. Good luck
