LED's

Just finished LED deck, compartment/rod locker, rub rail green, rubrail UV and livewell light. On a scale of 1-10 with 1 being easy and 10 being hard, i would rate it 6-7 mostly because of the difficulty in wiring the livewell. Used a small diameter aluminum welding rod to fish the wires through the holes. Started at passenger rear and added each string to harness working forward to front left compartment where ran wiring down through floor under carpet. Worked through compartments to right side labeling each strand with ID and double checking strand with 9V battery as each new same color strand was added. The kit i used came with 2 livewell lights of which i only used 1. To install 2nd i would have had to remove the fuel tank to gain access to install it and as mine is just 16 gallons, i went with one. Had to remove TM battery to have enough room to get one hand on back of light to screw nut on back of it. Had all wires terminate in right front storage where i drilled thru it into console and fished the wires through to switch panel which i mounted to right leg panel under console. Worked by myself and took roughly 9 hours. Still need to re-adhesive some areas of carpet. I had two new rolls of red and black 100' wire and probably used close to 150'. When you run along side then make right angle turns, it doesn't take long to use. If you have ever done window tinting, you know how aggravating it is to get the backing off the film. Well, these adhesive strips are just as aggravating. As harness ran to next strand, just stripped the insulation back and attached/solder/sealed each connection.

Ross, Give me a call when you can.  Im thinking of getting 2 Blacklight strips for my boat, since I cant seem to locate a decent LED Blacklight at a decent price.  Wanna see how you got them wired up etc.

Ross I have all the stuff here at the house for mine when you're free... it's been collecting dust for a while. I'm not motivated enough to do it. I'll fish out of yours until it done as long as you provide the gas.

ROFLMAO...............Your beginning to sound a lot like me Kenny. I never use to pass up a free fishing trip back years ago........lol

I did my bow lights yesterday afternoon. Just a heads up to those who want a neat streamlined finish... the center tubing that you remove from the cut-away area will leave the recess too deep to create a flush, built-in look. I attached my strip to a 3/16 plastic filler, then ( black ) RTV'd the filler strip to the back of the space. This flushed the light strip with the surrounding rub rail.

My next project will be to mount an LED headlight to a short section of bowlight tubing and use in existing plug. This will be completely removable and easy to store when not needed. Looks like the days of the tractor headlight are done...

+1, though mine wasn't that deep so I left it as is. But I'd also add cut the rub rail shorter than you measure, or somehow secure it where you cut. That thing WILL draw back, so you'll end up with a big gap and needing to install rub rail like I'm gonna end up having to do. Otherwise I'm well pleased. Much higher visibility and the trolling motor doesn't interfere with the view.
