TnTriton57
I'm looking for a good Topwater rod for spooks and other walk the dog baits. Any suggestions? Budget is under $
bronzebackhuntr
The 6'6" crucial is a heck of a rod for topwater. If you can find somewhere that has the Abu Garcia Ike delay series rods there is a 6'3" that is supposed to be the same as the old daiwa Ike rod that was my favorite rod ever. Until I broke mine.......
SteveHTN
For topwater I personally prefer just a medium action rod with a reel that has a decent retrieve speed. Medium seems to have a soft enough tip to give the lure full action plus allows you to keep pressure on the fish. But that's personal preference. I fish pop r's on a spinning outfit. Guest
Thanks for the input. I was thinking about a Duckett Ghost med 6'10", but thought that might be to long. Then I thought about Dixie Custom Topwater special rod. I want something light and is easy on the wrist. Also thought about an OKUMA TCS rod. Going to pair it with a Lews LFS reel. The Dixie Custom is a 6'1" X-fast action. So I'm guessing that would give the bait more action and put lest fatigue on my wrist right?? SteveHTN
Well, it'll be easier on your wrist for sure being shorter. But I like working topwater on a longer rod personally. Takes less movement to get them moving. Again it's all personal preference though. To me topwater lures it isn't as important to have a specific rod as it is worms, jigs, cranks and stuff. Endresonguides
The extra fast action will be good if you are planning to use mono. If going with braid, I'd look at some thing medium fast to fast action. Using braid requires softer rods, IMHO.
