Moonlight problems

Guys, I'm having an issue with both of my moonlights. The full moon and the half moon. I can plug em up and they work fine, but anywhere from 30 seconds to 5 mins they will cut off. Have to reach down and push on them and they will cut back on. It's kind of aggravating. They just started doing this. Any idea what the problem may be? Hoping Craig will see this and give me some insight.

I'd bet your plugs need cleaning. Get a small bore wire brush from the plumbing section at Lowes & clean the female receptacle. If that's not it, check your wiring for a loose common wire between the 2 plugs. Its highly unlikely that 2 lights have issues simultaneously.

I would bet you have a wiring issue, loose wires can cause lots of problems and if I remember right you was asking for wiring advice some time back, check you connections, if you do have a problem with BL moonlite will fix them

if they always come back on when you push them, you have a bad connection.  could be the suction cups aren't staying down and pushing the light up off the contacts.  look at the male phone jack to see how far down into the female it is. it should never be raised more than .060" from being down as far as possible.  if the cup height is right when sucked down, the cups and/or boat may be dirty causing the cups to lose suction.  clean boat and cups with water to remove debris.  depending on what type of female connector you have, the suction cup height may have to be adjusted by screwing the cup more or less into the T-slot nut.  you may have to remove lock nut.  we've changed the male plug height several times to try to accommodate all brands of females but some may still need adjusting.  if you have any other type of female connector than Moonlite, they could be the problem.  the other brands of females thin contacts bend easily and don't make good connection.  they make best contact if they are raised .060".  a small O-ring on the male pin sets them to perfect height.  corrosion on their bare copper contacts can also be a problem.  let me know if you can't find problem and i'll get you fixed.

I can plug my buddies up and they work fine and I took the screws holding the females down and they work good with the female plug taken loose off the boat. I noticed when I was in Watsons the other day that the new lights have a lot smaller suction cups on them than mine do. Thinking that might have had something to do with it. Female plugs are good.

hey, that's good insight.  i hadn't thought of that.  i've adjusted the phone jack protrusion to allow for the cups stiffening.  existing cups can be raised by removing the lock nut and shortening the stud length.  thanks for the info.
