I've been using the light weight frogg toggs for years in the summer, and they've always served me well, until this past site tx. I've been looking at several, including the 100mph and the pro qualifier lines. I know quality is going to cost, but I just wanted some first hand input on some good cost effective options, and an idea of what would work well in both hot and colder weather, if that's even doable. It's made larger than the size it is, which allows layering. Has scuba type cuffs. Fished in downpours and stayed dry. I wear Sub-Zero coveralls under them in brutally cold weather and stay warm. GlitterRocket Posted July 27, 2018 Report Share Posted July 27, 2018 My Sims contenders are dry and comfortable, block the wind great, and are warm enough for temps down to mid 30s. Any colder that that and I have to layer underneath. Heard a lot of good things bout the guide wear. 100mph and pro qualifier are both good too, but all 3 of those are too hot for high 30s or warmer, IMO. IMO, you won't find something comfortable for warm weather that will be effective in cold weather as well. I use my guidewear stuff til it gets in the 50s overnight & then I swap to Frabil lightweight stuff I caught on sale at Wing Supply. You might check them out, as they run very good deals on rainwear. brwnbass Posted July 27, 2018 Report Share Posted July 27, 2018 The bps 100mph is awesome for cold weather. It will keep you dry in warm weather too, but you'll be sweating on the inside. I have a walls 10x light jacket that was great about 10 yrs ago, but after being worn & washed for that long, its not waterproof anymore. But i would recommend it if you can find it. Tubejig Posted July 27, 2018 Report Share Posted July 27, 2018 Carhart is supposed to have some nice ranger. Have no experience with their rainwear but it's worth looking at. Guide wear that I have has been worth every penny. Bought in bargain cave several years ago, product was going through running change and I lucked out. DominionTackle Posted July 27, 2018 Report Share Posted July 27, 2018 Hard to beat Guidewear, but yes, Carhartt and Grundens will keep you drier.... from the rain that is, not the sweat. Astro180 Posted July 30, 2018 Author Report Share Posted July 30, 2018 Thanks for all the input guys, I'm going to make a trip to Bps and Cabela's and put myhands on them and decide what I want to go with, but my figuring is I can always layer under if needed for cold, but I think I'm going to replace my worn out frog toggs for summer. BPS has a lightweight suit that packs inti the parkas sleeve that isn't too bad priced.....I looked at it before buying the Frabil suit off winf supply. 31Airborne Posted July 30, 2018 Report Share Posted July 30, 2018 +1 on BPS 100mph gear for colder wx. I've also used Guidewear but I like the pocket layout on the BPS gear better. In warmer temps I use a North Face 3/4 rain jacket. It's made of breathable material so it's quite as stuffy as the rubber-coated nylon Funky warned you about. This jacket is washable . What I'd really like to find is a good set of bibs I could layer under for colder weather and then use my frogg togg jacket in summer and get a guide gear type jacket for fall/winter/spring.
