Anybody use an evergreen jack hammer chatterbait? I found them on ebay for 10.99 & ordered a couple. I know they've been out awhile, but i wasn't feeling the $15+ price tag. Search evergreen jack hammer on ebay, hit the filter tab on the top left, check lowest price + shipping & it should pop up.

I throw a chatterbait quite often but still can't bring myself to pay $15+ for just one. $10.99 isn't bad for that considering I've seen them go for $19.99.

Do you throw them in open water? Steady retrieve? I have been fishing grass with them and it’s not working. Everyone seems to say throw them into vegetation and keep them away from logs

Treat it just like a spinnerbait, fish along docks, laydowns, along grass lines, etc.

Get you a couple shad patterns and tie one on and parallel a bank that has a few stick ups. Just chuck and wind and experiment. It's been a while since I've caught fish with them but it's almost time to throw them regularly

I’ll give it a whirl! Thanks fellas. Anyone tried the strike king rage blade???

I’ve heard they are but I would rather patronize a store in America

Its the original, made by evergreen. Zman sells the jack hammer under their brand, but it's coming from Japan no matter where you get it.

I don't usually throw the chatterbait until late fall, when the water gets in the 50's. I like to throw it back in the creeks & on flats. I use bluegill colors, a small swimbait trailer, &  throw it in stained water whenever possible. Ive caught 5lb + fish from norris, cherokee, douglas & loudon on it, it works everywhere.

Interesting on the color selection. I've not done well with bluegill colors so I usually steer clear of them

There is a reason that they cost 15.99. The action of the bait begins on the first turn of the reel and rarely fails. This means that you have no wasted casts. Most other chatterbaits, that I've used, fail at some point during the retrieve. The ZMan custom chatterbait is pretty good 2nd and caught the fish in the link above.

For me, it is a bait that excels around vegetation. I'll fish it under docks, down banks too. It's not a spinnerbait replacement, for me. I will throw it where I would throw a buzz bait.  Sorry for the long post.

Lol. Sure seemed like a long post, typing on the phone.
