trackertxw175
I have been half-heartedly shopping for a new boat, but as close as I am to retirement, may do electronics upgrades instead. Have a Helix 7DI GPS G2 on bow and am going to add a 7SI GPS G2 on console. My first upgrade needs to be a TM with spot/anchor lock. The rub is: want to keep it 12v. Anyone have one? Heard horror stories about Powerdrive with a pedal. Motorguide makes a12v option. Wondering about the linkability to HB there. Wouldn't 100% rule out 24v , but when I changed my factory 24 and 27 batteries to 27 and 29, I could tell the difference in weight. Appreciate any info anyone can pass on. Peck
The motorguide wireless pedal is different for sure. Takes A LOT of time getting a feel for it compared to a cable steer. I oversteer a lot with it, especially at higher speeds. I also don't like how it deploys without having a rope. Also it's a pain to fish shallow where you can't easily raise it up like you can a traditional trolling motor. But the anchor function is worth dealing with the negatives. I have a Lowrance up front so I'm no help on the HB question. I think they make an adapter for the built in sonar on the trolling motor but not sure how the GPS link stuff works with HB. SteveHTN
Ross, the Powerdrive with remote worked good on my Jon boat, albeit there’s nothing better than a cable steer for getting close to shore. Oh, and get the one with iPilotlink if you wanna use it with the Birds. Then you can set it to follow the contours on the map.
31Airborne
I strongly recommend keeping the 24v system as an option. The dwell time you'll have w/ the 24v set-up is significantly more than w/ a 12v system. If it gets windy or you get into one of those power-fishing days you'll burn thru that single batt in no time. Lots of lighter weight battery options out there.
Tubejig
Ross, you are welcome to fish with me sometime and use my ultrex all day LOL Spotlock is wonderful. These things have lots of features but the spot-lock is the real deal. Let me know when we can get together. My schedule is kinda crazy but with couple days notice I can make it work. Tubejig
My schedule involves traveling. . But I do make it home weekends. Be glad to let you have as much time on the Ultrex as you'd like. I love it. We could always put Fishman in the boat so we'd at least get a biscuit LOL
