Question about points

I understand that a primary point is on the main lake and secondary points are up in creeks but my question is are points in big creeks like German Creek on Cherokee or Muddy Creek on Douglas still considered secondary points? These areas of the lake are so big I was just wondering if you could really consider them creek channels or if they would be considered part of the main lake.

i would consider any point off the main channel a secondary point but i really don't know for sure....maybe some of these guys will chime in here and shed some light on the subject

thats a good question... because those creeks are so big the main points that reach into the creek channel i would consider main lake points then of course the secondary points located whithin the main points... thats how dad and i fish those big creeks like that.. then the smaller creeks we treat like we probably should with the others with the main point on the main lake and then more inside the creek are the secondaries.. just my :2cents:

ive paid more attention to the points along channels during the winter when the lake is at lowest pool level and fish points or structure near those when the lake comes up.i think when it gets hot and they go deeper they go near their winter holding spots and not a lot of other structure that happens to be a point because the lake is up. german and ray creek both are huge this time of year but venture out in the winter and you'll see how small an area holds fish then.

A primary point is generally found on the main lake, a secondary usually back in a cove, but can also be near a larger main lake point. Fish use secondary points in spring, when migrating to spawning areas & then again when returning to the main lake. They will set up on main lake points thruout the summer, at varing depths according to water temps & current. The best main lake points are usually the longest rocky points with a river channel on one side & a flat on the other. A steep bluff or channel is a big plus, as is deep water on either side of the point.
