Chuck K
I purchased two Moonlight Blacklight LED's and put them on my boat. I bought the ones with the green light because the guy at Outdoor Junction in Lebanon said that these would not attract bugs. Well, if what they did is not attracting bugs (even without the green light on), then I would hate to see what "attracting bugs" would be. My boat is white and the sides of it and inside it was almost brown from all the bugs. We finally had to just turn them off and quit fishing because there were so dang many bugs. ANyone have any suggestions? Thanks Chuck
SilverFox
I don't have moonlights... but from what I've seen, the only way you're not going to attract bugs is to not use lights. Might try a thermacell in the boat. Familyman brought one with him the last time we fished together and it seemed to work. Probably wouldn't work as well if the wind was blowing much at all. Wiseguy909
Sportsman off with about 40% Deet bug spray. I've got the full moons with black LED's. The only thing that seems to help is keep the white light off.
Stratos260
+1 on the Thermacell. I use one when I night fish and it doesn't completely stop the bugs but it does keep enough away to make it bearable. Nothing will completely keep bugs away when your the only light within 1/2 mile.
Mountainman
Ive used a lot of blacklights thru the years. From old skool Stan Sloan Piggyback's to optronics to now MoonLites. Bugs are going to be a problem anytime you have an artificial light source on after dark. The guy that told you green lights dont attract bugs either doesnt know better or plain lied to you. MoonLites are by far the best black lights Ive used ever. The bug problems are going to exist with any light....its one of the negatives of night fishing. I always keep an old dish towel on my trailer & when I pull my boat out, I get the towel wet & wipe down the boat. It takes off all the bugs and scum line. softbaitmaker
I owned a pair of those lights for about two fishing trips and I found a buyer and unloaded them and went back to using my Hoppy's Pro-Glows. The front running light attracts more bugs than my Pro Glows do. I have several buddies that have all gone back to their Sloans or Pro Glows after using those lights a couple times........ Chuck K
They do a great job, but will have to try a thermacell and see what that does for me.
Triton196
ALL lights will attract bugs after dark. There is no way around it. As Andy said just use a towel to wipe them off at the end of the night. There is nothing wrong with your Monlites they are the Best money can buy. Tracker1861
Just sell the moonlites and get yourself a real light, Nucli-Eye Extreme. Back to the topic at hand, as stated above any light at night will draw in the bugs. Good luck finding any light that won't attract them. Chuck K
LOL, well that is a thought, but heck I just bought them and have too much invested to just dump them.. I will try some of the other suggestions and see how it goes...
bronzebackhuntr
I love my moonlights. I have a full moon and a half moon and they both work great. As said before they will all attract bugs, but that's a price that ya have to pay to go out there after dark. I would however take it up with the salesman that sold them to ya and inform him that he is incorrect.
smkymtnlure
Just found this site and signed up. Realize that nobody has posted on the is topic for years but I found the site through this topic on google so gotta put my 2 cents in. Any light on your boat is going to draw bugs. The green LED seems to draw less insects than a white light. Some nights the UV LED is all you need but on other nights it just seems darker so the green LED is helpful getting a little distance definition without the brightness of a white light. I personally don't like to put any white light on the bank I'm fishing at night wether it is on a fishing light or a flashlight or a spot light. I really like the Moonlite brand because of the convenience of the size of the light and its durability. Plus you have the added bonus of so much less amp draw than the Stan Sloans or the Hoppys lights.
SteveHTN
And the Lord said "Lazarus, come forth"..... welcome to TNBF. Agree with everything you said dude. Any light will attract bugs, and moons are the only way to go. If bugs are a concern, fire up a good cigar.
MOONlite
anybody that doesn't like any visible light should check out our NEW MOON. just introduced this year, it has a filter lens that stops most of the visible light. as far as drawing bugs, ultraviolet and blue draw the most. the visible light just makes it easier to see them. white light shows bugs the best. they come to the uv light, you just can't see them as well with uv only.and thanks everybody for the compliments. we strive to make the best blacklights.
