SJK
So, in what seems to be the latest SJK fashion, I had a major malfunction last night.... As we fired up to head down the lake I noticed a pecking sound in my motor....it does it in Forward/Nuetral/Reverse and the cadence stays in line with the RPM level. It's not terribly loud, but noticeable for sure. Looks like I'll be heading to the shop in a day or two.....probably have to sell my house to afford the repair bill. If you have the tools and have ever done it before I would run a compression test on it before I took it to the shop and see how the cylinders are balanced My yamaha normally runs 120 to 130 of somehwere in between. I think anything under a 100 may be cause for concern. Compression test can tell you quite a bit about the motor. JMHO
SilverFox
Marvel Mystery Oil... add a quart in with your gas. Hook up the ears and let it run in the yard. I assume you have a pretty big tank. If it's your valves sticking, as it sounds like it could be, this will lubricate them and the noise will stop. It's worth a try before you take it to the shop. Even with 2 stroke motors, I've heard of people using this stuff before in them. You can check this stuff out online at http://www.marvelmysteryoil.com/index.php/site/products/ I used it in a Nissan truck I used for hunting. The stuff is great. I put a quart in the gas and a quart in the oil in place of a quart of oil. The motor knocked like crazy. I put the one in the gas and one in the oil. Got it hot and changed the oil and replaced a quart like above and it stopped knocking. I did this every oil change and drove it another 20,000 miles probably with no knocking or trouble. I put Lucas Fuel Treatment in my motor now. It's suppose to keep the carbon down. I guess we will see. Good luck.
