question about boat motor

Recommended Posts

Went fishing yesterday and my wife noticed a film on the water behind the boat so I took the cover off and it looks like the bottom carbs on each side were leaking a little. I probably need to take it to a shop because I am not very good with boat motors but do you guys think this will be a hard fix or should I try it myself? How much do you think it would cost to have new gaskets and seals put on the carbs and motor checked for anything else that it may need...

It is a '95 johnson 150 ..

I was headin' back to the ramp today and it started sputtering and I was like" oh hell" and then noticed that my little nephew had switched the tank selector to the empty one.. but it runs good besides when it idles it has always had the sneezing sound until it warms up..

Dad told me that winston at anchor marine I think , does a good job . Have any of you had him service or work on your boats?

Thanks for any input..

Chris

Can I just take the single carb off or does the whole bar have to come off? Is there anything I need to watch for when taking the carb off ?

Sorry for all the questions but I really have never fooled with a boat motor besides changing spark plugs , water pump, etc.

Where would be a good place to buy the gasket kit for the motor?

Thanks for all the help,

the float bowls are plastic and you can take off 1 carb. the float bowl gasket is thicker than most gaskets and over time causes the bowl to warp. you can straighten by sanding them on a sheet of sandpaper on a flat surface. don't over tighten the screws during re-assembly.
