basslover79
Went fishing yesterday and my wife noticed a film on the water behind the boat so I took the cover off and it looks like the bottom carbs on each side were leaking a little. I probably need to take it to a shop because I am not very good with boat motors but do you guys think this will be a hard fix or should I try it myself? How much do you think it would cost to have new gaskets and seals put on the carbs and motor checked for anything else that it may need... It is a '95 johnson 150 .. I was headin' back to the ramp today and it started sputtering and I was like" oh hell" and then noticed that my little nephew had switched the tank selector to the empty one.. but it runs good besides when it idles it has always had the sneezing sound until it warms up.. Dad told me that winston at anchor marine I think , does a good job . Have any of you had him service or work on your boats? Thanks for any input.. Mountainman
check to see if nuts need to be tighten +1 check to see if everything is snugged up on it 1st. ESPECIALLY the bowl drain screw. Ive seen them back out a thread from vibration and start leaking like a sieve

basslover79
I checked and it looks like the bottom bowl is dripping. I cant see any way to tighten it without taking all 3 carbs off with the whole bar they mount on. Is there an easier way?? If not I will probably just wait until winter to try and fix it.. Mountainman
precisely where is the bowl leaking?
basslover79
From what I could tell it was around the seal where it fits to the carb. I will try to post pics of it tomorrow before work..
Mountainman
If thats the case, there should be a gasket where the bowl mates to the body of the carb. take that puppy apart and either get a gasket kit OR use some permatex and fill in the torn/damaged section. Would like to see a pic to be sure im telling you right.

basslover79
Can I just take the single carb off or does the whole bar have to come off? Is there anything I need to watch for when taking the carb off ? Sorry for all the questions but I really have never fooled with a boat motor besides changing spark plugs , water pump, etc. Where would be a good place to buy the gasket kit for the motor? Thanks for all the help, Chris
basslover79
the plastic bowls can warp. check it with a straight edge. They dont look like they are plastic but maybe they just look like metal, I will check when I take one off.. Thanks for your help.
MOONlite
the float bowls are plastic and you can take off 1 carb. the float bowl gasket is thicker than most gaskets and over time causes the bowl to warp. you can straighten by sanding them on a sheet of sandpaper on a flat surface. don't over tighten the screws during re-assembly. brwnbass
A good place to get gaskets & such is Napa, they have a huge catalog & prices are usually alot lower than any marine place.
